Brief Outline: Sentences are auctioned off to students and they must say if the sentence is grammatically correct.
Materials Needed:
Detailed Explanation:
After splitting the class into groups, g
ive students the handout with 20 sentences, some of which are correct and some with errors. The teams must decide which sentences are correct or incorrect. Give them a time limit of 5-10 minutes.
The object of the game is to buy the most correct sentences. Teams receive one point if they buy a sentence, and an additional bonus point if the sentence is incorrect and they fix it.
The team with the most points wins.
Give each team the same amount of money. $200 is recommended. You don’t want to give them too much money because most of the class time will be wasted on betting.
A different team member should do the betting in each round.
Start the game with the first sentence. The minimum bet is $5. The spokesperson from each team raises their hand if they want that sentence. This avoids the confusion of them yelling out random numbers.
