Friday, I'm in Love

Brief Outline:  Students apply their knowledge of the days of the week to a listening task.

 

Materials Needed:

  • FridayImInLove worksheet

  • Copy of The Cure's song, "Friday, I’m in Love"

 

Detailed Explanation:
  1. Revise days of the week and write them on the board (or use flashcards).
  2. Play the song through once.
  3. Hand out the lyrics and read through them as a class.
  4. Play the song through once and students fill in the days of the week.
  5. Check the answers.
  6. Sing the song through as a class.

 

Variations and Options:

  • Students could work in pairs or groups.

  • Some steps could be omitted and it could be made into a warm-up task.

  • After doing this activity in class, I discovered using the entire song was too difficult for my class.  Instead, we did one verse, rehearsed it and sung it.
