Brief Outline: This works very well for reviewing WH-questions. The students have a chance to talk to everyone in the classroom by asking and answering questions.

Materials Needed:

  • A piece of paper for each student

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Give a piece of paper to each student. Have them fold their paper in half, and then half again. Spread it open and there are four squares.
  2. Ask them four different WH-questions like: What’s your favorite movie? What’s your favorite food? Who’s your favorite singer? When’s your birthday?  However, seeing that this is a general game, any question can be used to fit your needs.
  3. The students write the each answer in four different squares. When they’re done, have them cut out the squares and crumple up the pieces of paper.
  4. Get a bag or box and the students put all the crumpled up paper in it. Have them come and pick up one crumpled piece of paper, and now they have to try to find out who wrote the answer by asking their classmates questions.
  5. When they find out, they have to report to the teacher, and they try another one. If they pick up one of their own answers, they have to put it back.

Variations and Options:

  • You could use this game with lower level JHS or elementary school students by having them draw pictures instead of writing words.

For the first round, after the students drop their paper into the bag, you might want to try throwing the balls to them. It might help in the case of a class full of sleepers.
