Brief Outline: Students form sentences using the present progressive and visual cards.
Materials Needed
- GodzillaPlaying worksheet, one for each group.
- One set of cards for each group, also on GodzillaPlaying worksheet.
Preparation Needed:
Pre-teach grammar
Detailed Explanation:Warm-up
Students work in groups to think of as many verbs as possible, without using the textbook. The group with the most verbs wins. - Write up the verbs on the board and change them into present progressive.
- Activity
- There are 9 pictures of famous people plus an action for each group. Keep one set for each group at the front of the class.
- One student comes up and takes the first picture back to their group. They make a sentence describing the scene, using the present progressive, and the next member comes and reports it to the ALT.
- If they are correct, they get the next card.
- Game continues until all the cards are gone.
Teaching Suggestions:
Variations and Options:
- Students have to write a present progressive sentence, show and read it to the teacher.
- Students must formulate 2 or 3 sentences about the card, one of which must include a present progressive.
Cautions:
- Some groups finish quicker than others. Have a worksheet handy for ‘bonus points’.
- Don't give the groups the cards in the same order!
