Submitted by: Patrick Bickford Inspired from: Rachel Baskett Date added: 07-24-07
Brief Outline: The students are given a plane crash scenario and they must choose objects from the crash to carry with them to survive.
Materials Needed:
- HawaiianPlaneCrash worksheet - Hawaii or Alaska
Detailed Explanation: - Read the following scenario to the students a couple times:
- “You are on an airplane. You are traveling from Narita airport to Honolulu, Hawaii. You are going over small Hawaiian islands. Suddenly, the airplane engines stop. The airplane is going down down down. The airplane crashes on a small Hawaiian island! (A crashing sound effect is recommended.) Everyone dies except you! You have no food or keitai. You must stay alive! You must choose seven things from the plane to help you stay alive. Also, you must say why you chose those things.”
- Hand out the worksheet and have them write about the items they chose. You might discover the students have a vivid imagination when given the chance.
Variations and Options:
- Change the crash site location. Choose a cold climate location the students might know. You might want to change some of the survival items to include cold weather items.
