Brief Outline: Students aim to practice the parts of a self-introduction so that they understand it is as separate entities.

Materials Needed:

  • IAmCards worksheet: One for each pair.
  • Deck of cards: 1-2 decks, depending on class size

Detailed Explanation:

  1. CARD GAME
    • Students make pairs. Each pair gets a suit from a deck of cards and lays them out on the desk in front of them.
    • Give a rule sheet to each pair.
(What’s your name?)
(How old are you?)
(What do you like?)
(What do you like and why?)
(What don’t you like?)
(What don’t you like and why?)
(What do you like doing?)
(What do you like and why?)
(What don’t you like and why?)
(What’s your name?)
(How old are you?)
(What do you like doing and why?)
(What don’t you like doing and why?)
    • Students play Janken to decide who will turn over a card. The loser has to turn over a card and say the appropriate sentence.
    • If a student loses 3 times in a row, they have to do a batsu (punishment) game.
    • After a card is turned over, they put it to the side.
    • Continue until all the cards are turned over. Shuffle and repeat one more time.
  2. DIALOGUE
    • Students have to write a self-introduction of themselves using the example as help.
