Brief Outline: These are two activities which help students practice the gerund form of verbs. Following a student-to-student interview, students work in groups and play charades. Materials Needed:
- Interview&Charading worksheet
- List of gerund sentences
Detailed Explanation:
Interviews:
Charades:
Prior to class, write various gerund sentences pieces of paper and put them in an envelope. Each group should have their own envelope. Some example sentences are:
After splitting the class groups of 4-6 students, the game starts by one student receiving a slip of paper and acting out the sentence without speaking. When the group correctly guesses, the next ‘charades’ student comes and says the sentence to the teacher before receiving the next sentence.
Variations and Options:
- Give students a time limit for both games, thus making them punchier exercises. Use music, some kind of timer, anything to keep the games fast-paced and exciting.
Cautions:
- Some students might not enjoy the acting out part. If this seems to be a problem, you could change the ‘acting’ to ‘drawing’.
