Brief Outline: A lesson on the comparative grammar point.

Materials Needed:

  • LetsCompare worksheet: Includes the game board and Let's Talk and Let's Write sections
  • Dice - one per group
  • Counter - one for each student

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Survey Warm up - survey the students in a ‘sleeping’ style (students rest their heads on their desk), and take a tally on the board.
    • Is English more interesting than science?
    • Is baseball more fun than basketball?
    • Do you like bread more than rice?
    • Is love more important than money?
    • Is the band SMAP more popular than Bump of Chicken?
    • Do you think Japan is more beautiful than Antarctica?
    • Do you like sleeping more than eating?
  2. Board Game - students work in groups of four and go around the board, making sentences as they go. If they can’t make a sentence, they miss a turn. The winner from each group gets a point.
  3. Let’s Talk - students ask six people the interview questions.
  4. Let's Write - students write the answers on the worksheet.

Variations and Options:

  • Make the board game a competition between the groups as well as just within the groups
  • Set a time limit to complete the interview worksheet.
