Brief Outline: Students practice the four parts of learning (speaking, listening, reading and writing) by listening to an excerpt from  their textbook and filling out the worksheet. If you don’t use New Horizon, don’t worry; see the Tips and Cautions section.

Materials Needed:

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Have the JTE review the grammar point with the students.
  2. Tell the students to listen as you read the passage on page 22 of New Horizon. If you use another textbook, reference the Tips and Cautions section below for the excerpt.
  3. Then, have the students practice reading every sentence by repeating after you.
  4. Hand out the worksheet and encourage the students to complete the worksheet without using their textbooks.
  5.

 Teaching Suggestions:

  • This activity is meant for students who learned the infinitive grammar point (to ~).
  • The worksheet contains pictures from the VeepNepal website. This website has given consent to use the pictures contained in the worksheet.

Tips/Cautions:

  • The textbook passage has grammar points I do not agree with, so if you are not using New Horizon and you use the passage below, I recommend changing the sentences to make them more grammatically correct. In the passage below, I see three things I would change.
  • For Non-New Horizon users: “Our foster sister, Meena, is nine years old and lives in Nepal. We have never been to Nepal, but we have supported her for a year through a foster program. Every morning Meena has a lot of work to do. She walks to a well to get water for her family. The water is heavy and it takes time. So she cannot go to school. We need more money to give to the program. We hope you will buy a lot of things.”
