Brief Outline: Students pass a ball to music and revise questions or vocabulary.

Materials Needed:

  • Two balls/objects
  • Music: Wworld music works well to introduce different counties or a topic.
  • List of questions (not included)

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Explain the rules of the activity. Detail out the passing order (who will pass to who) to avoid confusion.
  2. When the music plays, students pass the balls/objects and when the music is stopped, the students holding the balls/objects must stand up.
  3. The teacher shows a flashcard or asks a question and the the first student to answer wins.

Variations:

  • Can be used the revise a specific grammar. Make one object the ‘question object’ and the other the ‘answer object’. The ‘question object’ must devise an original question based on a given grammar point. Alternatively, the students could be given a topic (like school subjects) and must base questions around the topic.
  • Scaffold the activity, by starting off easy. For example, students can answer just 'yes' or 'no'. Build on this, with students having to say a sentence to follow their response and maybe asking a follow-up question.

Teaching Suggestions:

  • Good for revision or conversation classes.

Tips/Cautions:

  • Students may take a long time to think of a question on the spot, thus making other students bored and distracted whilst waiting. You could have students write an original question at the start of the game.
