Boggle
Brief Outline: Students work to make as many words as possible from a 3x3 grid on the chalkboard.
Materials Needed:
- A piece of paper for each student
Teaching Suggestions:
- Teach as a warm-up to a writing class, or a class based on vocabulary.
Detailed Explanation:
- Draw a 3x3 square on the board. Ask students randomly to give you a letter to fill up the grid. See the grid to the right.
- Give students a time limit to come up with as many words as possible.
- You can have students report back on the words they made to a ‘vocabulary bank’, which is contributed by the entire class.
Variations:
- Easy - have any word length ok.
- Difficult - words containing 3+ letters OR all words must contain the middle letter in the grid .
- Phonics - students can have any combination- as long as they can pronounce it!
