Brief Outline: Students work in teams to spell words to sit down the first.

Materials Needed:

  • A list of words (not included)

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Students work in teams according to their seated rows. The first student in each row stands.
  2. The teacher calls out a word and the student from the front row who can spell it, puts their hand up. The quickest gets to have a go at spelling it. If they get it wrong, the other students play Janken to have a chance.
  3. The student, who gets it right, sits down and the next student behind them stands up. The first team to have all students sitting is the winner.
  4. Students can either writes down the words on paper, write it on the board (so the quickest to the board and to write it), say it out loud, depending on the target of your lesson.

Variations:

  • Easy: Basic vocabulary
  • Difficult: Words from the textbook, or new words recently introduced
  • Different Idea :
    • Have questions and the student who can answer the fastest and write it down.
    • Have answers and the students need to come up with the appropriate question.

Teaching Suggestions:

  • Good for a vocabulary, speaking, listening lessons.
