Toilet Paper

Brief Outline: Using squares of toilet paper, students offer up bits of information about themselves.

Materials Needed:

  • 1-2 rolls of toilet paper

Teaching Suggestions:

  • This game is best done in the winter time because students can recycle the toilet paper for their runny noses in the classrooms that resemble ice cubes.

Detailed Explanation:

  1. Come into class with 1-2 rolls of toilet paper but don’t explain how the toilet paper will be used.
  2. You and the JTE start by pulling off “as much as you need," and then passing the roll around and tell the students to pull off "as much as they need". After everyone has what they consider to be a sufficient amount of toilet paper, explain how the toilet paper is used.
  3. For every square the student broke off, they need to give one piece of information about themselves. You and the JTE start by demonstrating: I like natto juice but I don’t like natto pizza. (2 pieces of information)

Variations & Options:

  • Allow the students to include bits of information about their friends. This could prove very entertaining.

Tips or Cautions:

  • This is best for smaller groups and for groups who don't already know all about each other.
